The French swimming team delivered a memorable performance at the 2025 World Championships in Singapore, clinching bronze in the 4x100m mixed relay. The team — composed of Maxime Grousset, Yann Le Goff, Marie Wattel, and captain Béryl Gastaldello — set a new national record in a thrilling final on Saturday.
Gastaldello: “I Felt Their Energy Behind Me”
As the final swimmer in the relay, Béryl Gastaldello anchored the team with emotion and pride:
“I could feel them behind the block,” she told France Télévisions. “I don’t know how to explain it—I knew they were screaming. I couldn’t take it anymore, but I felt the energy. I’m so happy to share this and bring home another medal. I’m a very, very proud captain.”
Team Effort Fueled by Earlier Performances
Maxime Grousset, fresh off his 100m butterfly world title earlier the same day, kicked off the relay for France:
“I tried to hand it off as best I could. I was a bit exhausted from the 100m fly, but everyone swam so well. We broke the French record and brought home another medal—we’re proud of that.”
Wattel and Le Goff Reflect on the Medal
Marie Wattel, who swam third, was overwhelmed:
“It’s incredible. I want to thank the entire team. Special thanks to Albane Cachot and Rafael Fente-Damers who swam in the morning. They’re only 18 and already medalists. I didn’t think I’d leave with a medal this year—I’m going to enjoy this moment fully.”
Yann Le Goff, the second leg, added:
“It’s unreal. I can’t even process it. Everyone swam great. We knew we had a chance and we nailed it.”
France Continues to Shine in Pool
The bronze medal in the mixed relay adds to France’s growing medal tally and reinforces its position as a rising powerhouse in international swimming.
