Bobby Webster, former General Manager of the Toronto Raptors, has officially been promoted to President of Basketball Operations. This marks a major leadership shift for the franchise following the departure of Masai Ujiri earlier this summer.
A New Chapter After Masai Ujiri
Webster joined the Raptors in 2013 as Assistant GM and became General Manager in 2017. He worked closely with Ujiri, helping build the roster that won the 2019 NBA Championship. His experience in salary cap management and player development made him a strong internal candidate.
The Raptors had announced their split with Ujiri just seven weeks earlier. The move ended a decade-long partnership that delivered the franchise’s greatest success. Ujiri’s departure left big shoes to fill, and Webster’s promotion is seen as a step toward stability and continuity.
Rebuilding the Raptors
Toronto has struggled in recent years, missing the playoffs for three straight seasons. But changes are underway. The team recently added Brandon Ingram in a trade, aiming to build a new core around him, Scottie Barnes, and RJ Barrett.
“We believe in Bobby Webster’s vision,” the franchise stated. “His leadership will guide us into a new era and bring us closer to another championship.”
Webster is now responsible for the entire basketball operations department. His challenge will be to rebuild a competitive roster while maintaining the team’s long-term goals.
High Expectations for the Future
Webster is known for his calm and strategic approach. He is expected to bring innovation to scouting, analytics, and player development. His background includes time in the NBA’s labor relations office, giving him a strong understanding of the league’s business side.
Although the Raptors haven’t advanced past the first round since 2020, fans are hopeful. With a talented young core and a new front-office leader, Toronto is preparing for a strong 2025–26 NBA season.
