Arthur Rinderknech Beats Benjamin Bonzi to Reach US Open 2025 Round of 16

Arthur Rinderknech advanced to the fourth round of the US Open 2025 after a confident four-set win over fellow Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. It’s the first time Rinderknech has reached the second week of a Grand Slam in his career.

A Turning Point for Rinderknech

Playing on Court 17 at Flushing Meadows, Rinderknech (ATP 82) defeated Bonzi (ATP 51) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. Although Bonzi took the first set, Rinderknech remained focused and turned the match around with strong serving and calm shot selection.

At one point early in the second set, Bonzi had a break opportunity at 30-40. But a missed forehand gave Rinderknech the opening he needed. From then on, he took control. His 15 aces and just one break conceded underlined his dominance.

Confidence Growing with Every Set

Bonzi started better, showing confidence and composure. However, Rinderknech grew stronger as the match progressed. He broke Bonzi midway through the second set, and again at the start of the third. With each service game, he grew more aggressive and accurate.

The third set proved to be the real turning point. Rinderknech saved two break points and sealed the set with a final break. In the fourth, Bonzi appeared to lose belief, and Rinderknech quickly closed out the match in just over two and a half hours.

A Grand Challenge Awaits: Carlos Alcaraz

Rinderknech will now face world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the Round of 16. The Spaniard has dominated his matches so far in New York. While Rinderknech has never beaten Alcaraz in their three previous meetings, he has shown strong form this summer, with recent wins over top players like Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud.

Regardless of the outcome, this run marks a major step in Rinderknech’s career. His ranking will rise into the ATP top 60 after the tournament. Following the US Open, he will join Team France in Croatia for the Davis Cup, where he’ll reunite with Bonzi—this time as teammates.
