🏀 Lithuania Latvia EuroBasket 2025: Lithuania Secures Quarterfinal Spot with Victory in Riga

Lithuania earned a crucial win over Latvia on Saturday evening in Riga, defeating the hosts 88–79 in the EuroBasket 2025 Round of 16. With a strong start and disciplined finish, the Lithuanian squad advances to the quarterfinals, keeping their championship hopes alive.

Led by Arnas Velicka, who scored 11 points in the first quarter, Lithuania quickly took control of the game, closing the opening period with a 28–18 lead. Although Latvia pushed back in the second quarter and came within two points (36–34), their inefficiency at the free-throw line (just 46%) prevented them from taking the lead.

Lithuania capitalized on their opponent’s struggles, regaining momentum through Deividas Sirvydis, who scored 7 quick points to close the first half at 47–37. Despite a monster performance from Kristaps Porzingis (34 points), Latvia couldn’t close the gap in the second half.

The final quarter was scrappy, but Lithuania remained composed, exploiting Latvian fouls to maintain their lead. A late three-pointer from Davis Bertans gave Latvia a glimpse of hope, but it came too late to alter the outcome.

The Lithuania Latvia EuroBasket 2025 showdown marks a strong return to form for Lithuania, who were eliminated in the Round of 16 back in 2022. They now await the winner of Greece vs. Israel in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Finland remains the only host nation still in the tournament.
